VIDEO: The Flaming Lips + Lightning Bolt – I’m Working at NASA on Acid

150

At this point in their wildly long career, The Flaming Lips have been afforded the ability to no longer make sense. Not that they ever bothered with sense in the first place, (Kim’s Watermelon Gun, anyone?), but it’s probably nice for them to know that nobody expects them to reveal something not totally and utterly bonkers. So then, there’s this latest collaboration with noise duo Lightning Bolt, which previously gave us such songs as aural assault course “I Wanna Get High But I Don’t Want Brain Damage“. Understandably then, the only place to go from those 2 minutes of relentless guitar noise and post-processed vocals is of course the cowboy version of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” (videos in the link, dum dum), after all, it’s only natural. It also turns into a noise-pop thing for a bit and then some electronic droning stuff happens with mouths and Pepto-Bismol in slow motion, it’s all really quite wonderful.

There’s a video above, you know. Just saying.
