So far in 2012, Devonté Hynes (of Test Icicles, Lightspeed Champion and Blood Orange fame) has released one perfect b-side, one great album and written songs for seemingly every other bugger on the planet. He’s also been working with Solange Knowles, notable for being both obscenely beautiful and the sister of warbling shithouse Beyoncé Knowles. What we’ve got here, then, are the first fruits of that handsome labour, a single entitled ‘Losing You’, which pairs a wonderfully tricky beat, beautifully sampled hand claps (seriously), funk guitars and sumptuous bass to create one of 2012’s very finest pop moments. Ever afraid of impressing you just a little too much, it’s also packing a video by Melina Matsoukas, featuring none other than Solange and her oh-so attractive cohorts taking part in an ostentatious show of wealth around people obviously far worse off than they. Great job.
Losing You is available from all decent digital retailers now, and will form but one track on her debut album due later this year, also written and produced by Hynes.
