Artist Feature – Mi Ami

Mi Ami don’t really sound like anybody else knocking around at the moment. It’s more than likely something in the combination of vaguely funky bass lines, guitars smashing around and electronic noise that just fit perfectly around vocals that sound like they came from Comanechi’s brother. Turns out they come from San Francisco, a place which has previously spawned such delights as Tupac, Courtney love and even… Wait for it…. Rob Schneider (surely a candidate for the best imaginary super group ever?).
They’ve got a new LP coming out called “Steal Your Face” on Thrill Jockey and if I’m willing to base it entirely on “Latin Lover” alone (I am) it should be really something. Anyway, the aforementioned track is available as a completely gratis download which sounds something like a caustic mix of Pavement and one of those garage rock bands that are so in vogue right now. I suggest you download it and then run around their MySpace page lusting after their myriad of singles, ep’s and various other releases they seem to have put out to date.
They’re currently about to wander around the UK playing some shows, check out the dates below
