Antony and The Johnsons – Thank You For Your Love

So you’re out with your significant other, walking in the sun, smiling. Having a lovely time when suddenly about, oh, 3 quarters of the way in they start pummelling you in the face as hard as they possibly can. And I mean really hitting you, as hard as they can. Which is unusual, considering what a nice time you were having prior to this vicious attack, isn’t it?

Well that goes some way to describe ‘Thank You For The Love’ by Antony and The Johnsons, the first few minutes of the song it’s a perfectly fine example of A&TJ song writing and as good a introduction to the bizarre voice of Antony Hegarty as any other – and then suddenly, for no real reason for the final one and a half minutes it turns into some horrible horn laden tack-fest which makes me wince in horror every time it happens. Even more so than the hideously horn laden tracks from the Mark Ronson of yesteryear (before he decided that horns were no longer cool), which is saying something quite terrible.

The 5 song EP this belongs to will be released on the 24th of August, hopefully being less offensive than the final few moments of this.
