Way back in 2006, the multi-instrumentalist and Christian folk heartthrob (I’m assuming this is a thing) Sufjan Stevens released a 42 song collection for Christmas, entitled Songs For Christmas, vols. 1 – 5. They charted, in a typically anachronistic fashion, Suffy’s fascination with the holiday season through the medium of hymms and original compositions. Six years later, we finally get the concluding 58 tracks in Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Vols. 6-10 which collects his many Christmas recordings from the intervening six years and presents them across five EP’s. It’s a wondrous, monstrously proportioned thing to behold, with more ideas, heart and talent in one EP than most bands can ever, it’s a perfectly contradictory collection for a perfectly contradictory holiday.
