Hookworms – Pearl Mystic

Hookworms Pearl Mystic

EDITORIAL NOTE: I’m from Leeds, as are Hookworms. We have friends on common, I have seen them and met them on various occasions.

Hookworms are brilliant. They always have been, right from when I first saw them live two years ago. The lead singer shouted, wailed, barked. The rest of the group sounded like early Psychedelic Furs mixed with Neu! I was in love. That doesn’t always translate to a great debut album, in fact, it usually doesn’t. The interesting thing is, Pearl Mystic is a great debut album. It’s a sonic, psychedelic wonderland, a driving, cataclysmic force of nature and a perfectly considered album from start to finish. If you haven’t heard it yet, you probably need to.
