I’m not entirely sure about you, but I consider myself a fan of all things that fit into the niece category of unparalleled beauty, it’s just what I dig. Consequently, Arthur Russell is among my musical heroes, from his wonky avant-disco as Dinosaur L through the near indescribable beauty of World of Echo, I just think he’s tops. If his influence across modern music wasn’t already evident enough (Kindness recently made a career almost ripping him off) Red Hot, the HIV and AIDS organisation behind such previous triumphs as 2009’s Dark Was The Night album have gathered together a diverse collection of musicians to cover his music for the cause including the likes of Hot Chip, Robyn, Twin Shadow and José González.
Arthur Russell died of AIDS in 1992 at the age of 40, by supporting the Kickstarter project, you’re getting involved in something significant, plus, with a mere $10 netting you a download of the record, you’d be some sort of fool not to get involved.
